Frequently Asked Questions

TickSurfers is a web-based charting platform with Free charting at no charge and Pro subscriptions, with optional Jake Bernstein indicators sold separately.

What is TickSurfers?

TickSurfers is a subscription-based, web-based charting platform for equities, futures, options, FX, and crypto.

It combines interactive charts with strategy backtest, parameter optimization, walk-forward analysis, multi-chart layouts, an options chain and multi-leg builder with interactive P/L, watchlists with alerts, drawing tools, bar replay, a trade journal, and custom indicators/strategies in pure JavaScript (optional WASM/WAT). Official Jake Bernstein indicators are available as a separate add-on. See the platform features overview, pricing, or launch the chart.

What is included at no charge versus Pro?

Start charting at no charge; Pro ($30/month or $300/year) unlocks full research tools, private indicators, and shared indicators.

Free (at no charge) includes multi-chart layouts, drawings, bar replay, built-in studies, and watchlists. Pro adds strategy backtest, optimization, walk-forward, options chain and builder, pure JavaScript coding (optional WASM/WAT), watchlist alerts and self-optimization, and trade journal. See pricing.

Does the charting platform work on Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile?

Yes. TickSurfers Chart is web-based — it runs on desktop and mobile with no desktop install required.

Custom indicators and strategies are written in pure JavaScript with the built-in technical-analysis helpers; performance-critical studies can optionally use WebAssembly (WASM/WAT).

What strategy research tools are included with Pro?

Pro includes strategy backtest, parameter optimization, and walk-forward analysis on one shared runner.

Backtest covers the trade log, equity curve, profit factor, win rate, drawdown, and per-trade markers — including multi-leg options. Optimization is a grid search with built-in or custom JavaScript fitness scripts. Walk-forward rolls in-sample optimize + out-of-sample validate. Details are on the features page.

Can I use multiple charts and options tools together?

Yes on Pro for the full options workflow, with multi-chart layouts and pane-bound research tools.

Layouts support single, dual, or N-pane grids. You can bind backtest, optimization, walk-forward, the options chain, and the options builder to specific panes. The options builder covers long calls, verticals, iron condors, butterflies, calendars, and custom multi-leg setups, with an interactive P/L canvas and breakeven markers on the chart.

Can I write my own indicators and strategies?

Yes on Pro — code in pure JavaScript with no proprietary language to learn; private and shared indicators are Pro-only. Optional WASM/WAT for heavier compute.

Use the in-chart editor for indicators, strategies, and optimization fitness scripts in pure JavaScript. Performance-critical studies can optionally compile WebAssembly (WASM/WAT). Private indicators and shared indicators are not included with Free.

Where does market data come from?

Live ticks, history, and extended-hours pricing are delivered through the TickSurfers backend across equities, futures, options, FX, and crypto.

The active data feed is managed by TickSurfers — you do not pick or configure a data vendor in the chart. Market data egress stays on the TickSurfers backend.

Who is Jake Bernstein, and how do I get his indicators?

Official Jake Bernstein indicators are a separate product from chart subscriptions (Free at no charge or Pro).

Jake Bernstein has traded for more than 50 years and developed rules-based mechanical systems designed to reduce discretionary guesswork. Learn more and purchase on the Jake Bernstein page.

Why does TickSurfers offer so many indicators?

Different styles and timeframes need different tools — the catalog is a toolbox for the chart workspace, not a single system.

Day traders often want faster internals and volume reads; swing and futures traders may lean on seasonality, premium, and rules-based systems. An entry study is not always the best exit study. Studies work best when combined inside the chart workspace, not used in isolation.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Cancel anytime from your account; access continues through the end of the current billing period.

Manage subscription products from your account dashboard.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Card payments are processed by Stripe; TickSurfers does not store full card numbers on its servers.

Checkout runs through Stripe.
